Smith Studio and Gallery partners with the Geneseo Park District to bring you quality art classes for children, families and adults. Learn more about these scheduled art classes at the Smith Studio, the Geneseo Park District's and in the Fall/Winter 2018 Activity Guide.
You can register for these specific art classes in person at Smith Studio or register on line at the Geneseo Park District. Payment is due when you register.
Saturday, September 15 From 1:00 – 3:00
Painting on Canvas For Grades 1 thru 6
Children will have the opportunity to explore new ways to capture an image on stretched canvas, as they learn about various painting styles from Realism thru Abstract Expressionism. They will also discover that a paintbrush is not the only tool they can use to express themselves, as they are given the opportunity to use a variety of found objects with which to paint. Saturday, September 29 From 1:00 – 3:00
Halloween / Day of the Dead "MASKS" For Grades 1 thru 6
Learn the cultural difference between “Halloween” and “Day of the Dead” and how it affects the appearance of your mask. Children will start with a white paper mache mask and transform it into a mask that defines a character and inspires them. New painting and sculptural techniques will be introduced as children learn to expand their ideas into a true art form. During each 2-hour art class children will have time to learn more about a variety of art mediums, techniques, art styles and cultural traditions. Cost: $15 / child • Cost includes all materials. Thursday (Adults Only), September 25 From 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Over-The-Top Pumpkin Carving You must be over 21 to attend.
Both men and women will have fun carving their own Jack-O-Lantern for Halloween. Learn special “subtractive” relief techniques that will have you carving like a professional. Carve a pumpkin that is the envy of your neighborhood or workplace. Cost: $15 / Adult • Cost includes a pumpkin to carve, snacks and beverages. Geneseo Park Dist. #23025

Family Afternoon Pumpkin Carving Party
Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent/adult
Why make a mess in your home carving jack-o-lanterns, when you can come to the Smith Studio and make the mess here. We want this special afternoon to include fathers and/or mothers with their children. Bring your children in for a Sunday afternoon of family fun pumpkin carving and Halloween festivities.Cost: $15 / a SPOT* • Cost includes a pumpkin to carve, snacks and beverages. *a “SPOT” is one pumpkin. If your child is carving a pumpkin and you are there to assist (and have fun), that would be one spot. If you wish to carve your own pumpkin alongside your child that would be two spots. A second child would be an additional spot. (Max 12 spots)

As a Gallery . . . We feature original artwork for sale by David Smith, owner/resident artist, and represent over 24 extraordinary 2-D and 3-D regional artists located throughout Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Also we showcase innovative artists for a 2 months one-man-show in our upper gallery.
As a Studio . . . We offer a wide variety of art programs for children, families and adults to fit your schedule and creative interests. The art class options listed below are only offered through Smith Studio.
Plan your own private art class or art party. You only need 2 people to schedule a 2 hour art class or art party that fits your schedule and interests . . . Great for friends getting together, family outing and children’s birthday parties.
Thursday nights throughout the month we alternate 2 art classes. Thursday Cork & Canvas, we invite both men and women to explore their creative side, while socially interacting with others (You must be over 21 to attend). Thursday Open Studio, we invite teens and adults to come in and work with art medium and venue of their choice.
When you are downtown bring your children in for a short impromptu art outing. We always have paper, marker and crayons out for anyone who wants to have fun drawing, or just relax in our upper gallery . . . check out the latest art exhibit, read a book or play a game.
